Day 8: Sink

Day 8: Sink

For Day 8 of illustrating songs from Daisy, this piece is inspired by the haunting opening lines of “Sink”:

“I don’t want to let you go
But it hurts my hands to hold the rope.”

The artwork vividly captures the visceral pain and emotional struggle embedded in the lyrics. A bloodied hand wrapped tightly in a frayed rope symbolizes the turmoil of holding onto something—or someone—that causes harm, even when the intention is rooted in care or love. The dripping blood conveys both the physical toll and the emotional anguish of this effort, paralleling the push-and-pull dynamic of the song’s themes.

The choice of a muted, vintage-inspired palette juxtaposed with the sharp red of the blood evokes a sense of timelessness and decay, aligning with the song’s exploration of loss, betrayal, and inevitability. The rope itself becomes a metaphor for connection, tension, and eventual release, tying back to the lyric, “You want to sink, so I’m gonna let you,” which reflects the ultimate acceptance of letting go.
