Day 38 & 39 - Tattooed Tears (The Front Bottoms)
Some songs don’t just get stuck in your head—they get tangled in your emotions. Tattooed Tears by The Front Bottoms is one of those songs for me. It’s not just about a failing relationship; it’s about the realization that love will never be convenient, easy, or simple.
I wanted to take that feeling and translate it into an image. So, I drew a crocheted heart—symbolic of a love carefully built, loop by loop, stitch by stitch—slowly coming undone. The crochet hook is still there, desperately trying to repair the unraveling strands, but it may be too late. Sometimes, no matter how much you try to hold something together, the threads still slip through your fingers.
This piece took me two days to complete because of the amount of detail in the yarn. The intricate stitches, the way the strands twist and curl—it all had to feel organic, like something fragile and imperfect. This challenge reminded me of my past struggles with drawing rope textures, particularly in my piece inspired by Sink by Brand New. But this time, I wanted to push myself further.
The lyric that stuck with me most while drawing was:
"Is 'seriously slipping out of control'."
That moment in the song hits like a realization you’ve been avoiding. It’s when you stop pretending things will fix themselves and acknowledge that they might not. The way Tattooed Tears paints that picture—through raw, unfiltered storytelling—reminds me why The Front Bottoms are so special. Their music isn’t just something you hear; it’s something you feel.
I’d love to know—what’s your favorite lyric from this song? Do you connect with it in the same way? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
*FYI I mislabel the day on the picture, apparently I can’t count.
