Day 13: 737
Day 13: 737
For Daisy, I leaned into retro tattoo-inspired designs to match the album’s raw intensity, but for this one, I wanted to push myself artistically. I’m going with a mid-century modern graphic design aesthetic—something that feels nostalgic, almost like an old-school print ad. While Draw Down the Moon doesn’t fully embrace that era, it has moments that remind me of ’60s and ’70s songwriting, and I think this approach captures its lighter, more reflective feel.
First up: “737” I chose the lyrics,
“I feel like a 737, painted over and over again, until the paint gets too heavy. Grounded there, no company on my side.”
For this design, I modeled the 737 after a beached orca whale—a creature that should be powerful and free but is stranded, unable to move. The plane’s wings sag under its own weight, just like a whale’s body when it’s stuck on the shore. It’s such a striking image of being weighed down and unable to do what you were meant for, which fits the song’s lonely, exhausted tone perfectly.
This is Day 13 of my attempt to draw every day and improve my skills. I’ll be illustrating each track from the album, so if you followed along with Daisy, I hope you’ll join me for this one too. Let me know what you think, and which song you’re most excited to see! If you are interested in following along to this and other albums please follow me.
